The Hydra was a fearsome monster in Greek mythology with multiple heads that would regrow when cut off. Heracles was tasked with defeating the Hydra as part of his twelve labors, but he found that for every head he cut off, two more would grow in its place. With the help of his nephew Iolaus, Heracles was able to defeat the Hydra by using a flaming torch to cauterize the stumps after cutting off the heads.
